About Us
To help organizations spur greater cross-cultural understanding on a community level, 20,000 Dialogues, and Public Agenda have partnered to offer the documentary film, Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain, along with resources for community groups to lead discussions on the film in grassroots dialogue events. The goal of the campaign is to help citizens across the country engage in meaningful discussion about the past, present and future of interfaith and cross-cultural relations.
The film Cities of Light chronicles a period in history when people of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish faiths co-existed peacefully and flourished. Sadly, this period of harmony and prosperity was upended by interfaith conflict, misunderstanding and intolerance. Since its launch on PBS in August 2007, the film has earned widespread acclaim and earned the endorsement of the World Economic Forum Top 100 Religious Leaders for use in community dialogues.

20,000 Dialogues is a nationwide grassroots dialogue project designed to bring people of different faiths together using films about Muslims to stimulate discussion and promote understanding. It brings the concept of interfaith dialogue into the hands of ordinary people who want to make a positive difference. 20,000 Dialogues is guided by participant-directed dialogues, equipping everyday citizens with the tools and resources to turn dialogue into action. In addition to facilitating dialogue, 20,000 Dialogues partners with national and community-based organizations to offer leadership facilitation training, a national network for service projects, and opportunities to continue the dialogue.
